What the reader needs

When someone cannot open a file, ask which account they are using and what message appears, without requesting their password or verification code. Check whether the invitation was sent to the intended address and whether the document’s current permissions match the agreed audience. Avoid immediately switching the file to unrestricted access just to make the error disappear. The correct fix should preserve the original sharing decision.

How to review it

Use the provider’s current support guidance and test the intended recipient journey. If the recipient cannot use the chosen service, agree an alternative distribution method that fits the sensitivity of the document. Record any permission change and confirm that it did not affect unrelated files through folder or group settings. Once the issue is resolved, tell the recipient which route to use and retire confusing duplicate invitations where possible. A temporary workaround should not quietly become permanent broad access.

Imagine this

Hypothetical example

A prospective partner receives an invitation at one business address but tries to open the pack from another account. The owner verifies the intended recipient and corrects the invitation. The file remains limited to the agreed audience rather than being made public to solve a routine access mismatch.

Make it practical.
