Plan the handover
During the guided part, work through a sample profile change and explain why the change helps a recipient. Then give the participant a different but comparable task: update an authorised project description, for example. They should use their own judgement rather than copy the trainer's words. Choose a task small enough to complete while help remains available, but substantial enough to reveal whether the explanation made sense.
Watch before rescuing
Agree that the facilitator will wait before stepping in. If the participant stops, ask what they expected to happen and which information they need. Record the confusing instruction, not a judgement about their ability. End by having the participant describe how they would repeat the task later. This gives the next session a concrete starting point.
Hypothetical programme scene
Hypothetically, a participant watches a trainer organise a sample case study, then writes a description for their own approved project. They hesitate over the intended audience. One clarifying question helps them finish without the trainer rewriting the profile for them.
Make it practical.
