Make the decision
Changing a job title is only the first part of updating a professional identity. Review the employer name, logo, email address, appointment link, downloadable biography and examples of work. Decide which materials you still have permission to show. A project may remain a useful part of your experience while its internal documents or customer contact details should no longer be shared. Keep the description of your contribution specific and accurate.
Put it into practice
Create a transition list with three outcomes: retain, replace or remove. Check old links from places other people may have saved, such as event pages and shared PDFs. Where you control a destination, explain the new contact route without implying continued authority to represent the former employer. Ask both the profile owner and the appropriate company contact to review any disputed brand or project material. Record completion so forgotten pages do not keep presenting the old relationship.
Hypothetical example
A sales manager moves to a new firm. Their public profile is updated, but a linked brochure still contains the former firm’s offer. The manager removes the brochure, corrects the appointment page and keeps a factual career summary that does not imply access to the old firm’s services.
Make it practical.
