Understand the decision

When a page is shared in a message or social feed, its preview may contain a title, description and image. Review that presentation as part of publishing. It should accurately describe the destination and avoid an outdated offer or unrelated image. A misleading preview can create confusion even when the page is correct. Do not assume changing visible page text automatically updates every platform’s existing preview at the same moment.

A practical workflow

Share the link in a controlled test conversation using the channels your audience uses. Inspect the preview, then open the page and compare the promise with the actual content. If the preview is wrong, ask the site owner to review the page metadata and the platform’s current refresh process. Keep screenshots of the approved presentation for campaign review. When an old preview persists, add clear accompanying text rather than pretending that every previously shared message has been updated.

Imagine this

Hypothetical example

A brochure page is updated for a new service, but its message preview still shows the previous campaign’s headline. The team corrects the page metadata, checks the current sharing behaviour and adds a precise description to the campaign message before sending it.

Make it practical.
