Ask for an allocation message

Prepare an agreed way for a customer to explain which invoices a combined payment covers. The message should identify the obligations and any deliberate partial allocation without requiring extra sensitive account information. Keep the allocation separate from a provider status: one explains the commercial intention, while the other describes the financial journey.

Check the arithmetic first

Before marking individual invoices settled, compare the allocation total with the confirmed received amount and investigate any difference. Avoid allocating automatically to the oldest item unless that is an agreed business rule. Tap Tap Go’s proposed SEPA receiving capability is coming soon; this is a reconciliation design for a future supported setup, not an assertion about built-in allocation tools.

Imagine this

An illustrative future scenario

In an illustrative account review, a customer pays one amount for three project invoices. The finance team uses the customer’s allocation note to divide the receipt and leaves a fourth disputed invoice open, preserving the actual agreement.

Make it practical.
