Define the purpose of each stage

An introductory conversation may establish fit, while a paid discovery engagement may produce analysis, recommendations or a detailed scope. Explain the difference in deliverables and responsibilities. Avoid advertising a free consultation that becomes an unexpected sales pressure session. Equally, do not promise substantial professional work during a short introductory call if that work belongs in a separate engagement.

Make the transition explicit

If the conversation reveals a need for paid work, describe the proposed next stage and allow the prospect to decide. Provide the relevant scope and commercial information through the normal proposal process. Keep the booking page and profile consistent with these boundaries. A clear transition supports trust because neither party has to guess when an exploratory conversation becomes a professional assignment.

Imagine this

Hypothetical example

A hypothetical consultant offers a short fit discussion and a separate paid workflow assessment. The profile describes the assessment’s deliverable and makes clear that booking the introduction does not purchase or approve it. After the call, the prospect can review a specific proposal.

Make it practical.
