Make the request neutral
Explain where feedback can be left and thank the customer for considering it. Do not prescribe a star rating or supply a glowing statement for them to copy. Google’s guidance says reviews should reflect genuine experiences and prohibits incentives for posting, changing or removing reviews. Treat a review request as an opportunity to learn and help future customers, rather than a transaction for praise.
Make participation straightforward
Send the relevant review link at an appropriate point after the service experience. Avoid repeated pressure if someone does not respond. A customer may need a support conversation before they are ready to write publicly. Keep support and public feedback routes clear. Internally, discuss patterns in feedback and assign service improvements where needed. The practical value of reviews includes understanding what customers found confusing, useful or disappointing.
Hypothetical example
A hypothetical supplier sends a short message after delivery asking for an honest account of the experience. It includes a review link and a separate support contact. No discount is offered for a favourable rating, and customers are not asked to remove criticism before receiving help.
Make it practical.
