Classify each proposed inflow
Ask what the partner payment legally and commercially represents: equity investment, a loan, a territory fee, inventory purchase or another arrangement. Use the signed terms and appropriate accounting advice to determine treatment. Do not add every incoming dollar to a revenue headline because it supports growth. A territory programme can involve several different types of cash flow, each with its own obligations, timing and implications for the central business.
Make the operating forecast separate
Show card units, selling prices, channel shares and payment-service economics in their own model. Label targets and assumptions clearly, including when a territory is expected to activate. Keep partner capital outside sales totals unless the actual arrangement and accounting treatment justify a different classification. This separation helps potential investors understand how expansion is funded and how customers generate revenue, rather than confusing a financing strategy with evidence that the product has already achieved commercial demand.
Hypothetical example
A hypothetical territory partner contributes funds under a negotiated investment agreement and separately orders cards for distribution. The presentation shows those flows in different lines. Readers can distinguish growth financing from the card transaction, making the business model easier to assess without inflating the apparent operating revenue.
Make it practical.
